Nurses Receive Daniel Johnson Jr. Award
11-12-2023
For over 10 years, the family of Daniel Johnson Jr. has honoured the memory of their loved one by giving nurses at Windsor Regional Hospital the opportunity to enhance their clinical skills in the area of palliative care.
Johnson was a former inpatient on 4W who passed away in 2010. To remember him, his family established the fund to allow two nurses to attend a conference.
The recipients of the 2023 Daniel Johnson Award are oncology nurses Laurie Antonucci, Celina Bae and Kristin Plantus.
They were presented with their award in a small ceremony on October 10.
Manager of Inpatient Oncology at Windsor Regional Hospital, Jennifer Nadalin, was proud to present the recipients with their awards.
"Each year, nurses are recognized for their efforts to provide the kind of care that our patients need and deserve."
As recipients of this award, both Lorie, Celina and Kristin will receive enhanced training on oncology and palliative care, specifically pain and symptom management.
"Our line of work isn't easy, but with everybody together with dedicated nurses and the compassion they show every day, it just makes it a little easier," says Kristin Plantus.
The memory of Daniel Johnson Jr. lives on through this Endowment Education Fund and Award. The recipients will improve upon their skills and share it with their colleagues - all for the betterment of our patients.
"On behalf of the Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation, I would like to thank the members of the Johnson family for their ongoing support," says Cristina Naccarato, Executive Director, Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation.
"We look forward to continuing to recognize in Daniel Johnson Jr's name for years to come."
The family deserves a tremendous amount of credit for remembering their loved one in such an honourable way.
